About Our Team

Dr. Kim Busichio

More than 20 years of experience, I specialize in the assessment and treatment of cognitive deficits related to developmental and attention deficit disorders. I have worked extensively with adults, adolescents, and children providing comprehensive cognitive assessments in order to determine the appropriate treatment plan and future care to leverage brain plasticity thereby maximizing my patients’ functional improvement.Clinical neuropsychology is a subspecialty of psychology with additional expertise in cognitive psychometric assessments and clinical application of brain-behavior relationships.

I received my Master’s and Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University and an undergraduate BA with Honors in Psychology from Seton Hall University. I completed a Post-Doctoral residency in Neuropsychology at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute Center for Head Injuries where I completed inpatient and outpatient rotations in cognitive assessment and rehabilitation. I completed my Clinical Internship at NYU-Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (RIRM). Prior to that, I was a research and clinical associate at Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation, the VA Hospital, and UMDNJ-University Hospital. I was also the coordinator of the Learning Disability and ADHD Clinic at Fairleigh Dickinson University. My work in the field of Neuropsychology has been extensively published through manuscripts, abstracts, and dozens of presentations. I am a member of the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA).

Dr. Anne Reuter

 Dr. Anne Reuter, formerly Hanna, is a Neuro-Optometrist, fellowship-trained and board certified in Neuro/Developmental Optometry and Vision Therapy. After completing her optometric training at the SUNY College of Optometry in 2008, and following her rotations through the Brooklyn VA system, Dr. Hanna joined Lenox Hill Community Medical Group in New York City, a hospital based, multi-specialty medical group where she developed advanced clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. She then developed and directed the binocular vision department at The Brown Center in Providence, Rhode Island, where she specialized in pediatrics, functional vision performance and neuro-rehab. Currently, she is a professor in the field of Neuro-Optometry, Binocular Vision and Neurological Rehabilitation at MCPHS University, as well as a private practitioner in Oyster Bay, specializing in neuro-cognitive and athletic vision performance. 

 Dr. Hanna has had numerous publications in the field of Ocular Disease, as well as Vision Rehabilitation, and is an active investigator for PEDIG (Pediatric Eye Disease Investigators Group). She is also avidly involved in the community – being the optometrist for multiple charitable organizations, providing eye care to at risk women and children, as well as outreach programs in the Bronx. 

Diamanto Tsakanikas, Ph.D.

Specializes in Clinical Neuropsychology across the lifespan. She has advanced clinical training and expertise in the Neuropsychological and Psychological evaluation for differential diagnosis and treatment of patients with a wide range of disorders affecting development, cognition, mood, and behavior. Dr. Tsakanikas’ diverse clinical areas of expertise include neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders, which span a wide range of behavioral and cognitive disorders associated with brain disease/conditions (e.g., attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, cerebrovascular accidents/stroke, cancer/neuro-oncology, auto-immune disorders, seizure disorders). Dr. Tsakanikas is certified to conduct evaluations for intellectual ability by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

Other areas of clinical expertise include neurodegenerative and movement disorders (e.g., dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease) and psychiatric disorders (e.g., affective disorders/depression, anxiety, and psychosis). Dr. Tsakanikas’ clinical scientific research at Weill-Cornell Medical College and at The Rockefeller University Hospital, with a focus on neurologic disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Tsakanikas has held executive board/leadership roles in organizations related to Neuropsychology and served on professional committees, such as institutional review board for clinical research and medical ethics, and is a member of multiple professional Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Neuroscience organizations.

Dr. Tsakanikas has completed two years of advanced Clinical Neuropsychological training and clinical research in a post-doctoral level fellowship at the Weill Cornell Neuropsychology Service/Memory Disorders Program in the Department of Neurology & Neuroscience at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center and in the Department of Neurology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where training also included conducting evaluations before and after neurosurgical interventions and treatment. She also has training and clinical experience in intra-operative procedures aiming to preserve optimal brain function post-operatively, such as cortical stimulation mapping during awake craniotomy for localization of areas critical for motor, sensory and language functioning as well as intracarotid amobarbital procedure (WADA test) for assessing laterality/hemispheric functional dominance of language and memory. Dr. Tsakanikas completed a clinical internship at the Neuropsychology Service in the Psychiatry Department at North Shore University Hospital, where she received specialized training in the Neuropsychological and Psychological evaluation and psychological treatment of adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of neurodevelopmental, neurologic, and psychiatric disorders.  Dr. Tsakanikas completed her doctoral education in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where she also received a recognition award for her clinical research in Alzheimer’s disease and treatment.

Dr. Tsakanikas is passionate about and committed to advocacy for equity across social issues, with a special interest in working to reduce disparities in health care. One of her areas of focus has been improving health care access for patients with mental illness and cognitive dysfunction who have systematically experienced greater obstacles to quality health care based on their racial or ethnic group, socioeconomic status or other psychosocial variables that may impact health and health care access. Dr. Tsakanikas spearheaded the first cognitive remediation program within New York City Health + Hospitals, with Kings County Hospital serving as the flagship site in the city’s public health care system, to provide an evidence-based treatment for patients with cognitive dysfunction and comorbid psychiatric and/or medical conditions. While previously at New York City Health + Hospitals/Kings County, Dr. Tsakanikas was awarded a grant to develop a clinical program with the aim to improve access to quality comprehensive treatment for psychiatric patients with cognitive impairment (with or without neurologic or other medical comorbidities), of a largely underserved community, and reduce re-hospitalization rate, increase patient engagement in treatment, and optimize functioning in activities of daily living at home, work or school setting. Ultimately, enhancing quality of life for all, regardless of psychosocial variables, is the goal of her advocacy.

Learning more about your symptoms is our top priority. This starts with our in-depth assessment process. We have spent years developing our system to ensure our patients are not mis diagnosed. Given the numerous symptoms that come with ADHD it is easy for a patients to be mis diagnosed and placed on a treatment program that is not best for their ailment. With out extensive process we ensure you are getting the proper diagnosis so we can make an educated decision on what the best treatment is for each patient.

Attention is a basic cognitive function for everyday activities. For individuals, the importance of good attention span is crucial in being able to adequately process and understand material presented to them. For a child/adolescent, when a problem with attention is identified in the schools, there can be variety of reasons that can account for the inability to focus/concentrate. In order to optimize learning, it is crucial to understand the root of the problem in order implement appropriate treatment planning and directly address the underlying issue. This will be accomplished with our multidisciplinary approach to assessment (including neurology, neuro-optometry, audiology and neuropsychology/psychology) and our comprehensive treatment program is tailored to each individual across specialties.

Our son is 8 years old and his teachers have been telling us for years that he has ADD and he needs to get help. At first we told them that he is just a boy and he is very active. The last thing we wanted to do was put him on medication at such a young age. But after a couple of years and hearing it from several teachers we started there is something more we can do. We did some research and found a Dr Reuter whose office was very close to where we lived and her expertise was in diagnosing children. After his initial assessment we learned that he had problems with his vision that was causing him to struggle in classes and with his homework. Our son just started high school this year and was diagnosed with ADHD about 2 years ago. He has been taking adderall since he was diagnosed and he really doesn’t like how it makes him feel. He takes it twice daily but always complains he feels funny an hour after his morning dose. His appetite is very hard to control as he always forgets to eat from not being hungry. We were worried about the long term effects so we did some research to find a new doctor. We were talking with one of our friends and she referred us to Dr Busichio and her team. After meeting with Dr Busichio and going through their extensive assessment, we learned that he suffered from ADHD as well as central auditory processing, where they utilized a specialized listening device that was a game changer. He has been working on the new central auditory processing treatment and has been off of the adderall for 4 months now. He has no trouble concentrating in school and says he feels much better not having to take the medication anymore.
